The School of Business and Management currently has three studentships available for entry onto the PhD Programme in January 2011.
Research within the School clusters around six broad themes (i) innovation, networks and knowledge; (ii) communications, discourse and narratives; (iii) equality and diversity; (iv) education; (v) globalisation and (vi) business history. Faculty conduct research across one or more of these themes. We also host the Centre for Research in Equality and Diversity, the Globalisation Research Centre, the Business History Research Centre and co-host the Centre for Global Security and Development with the School of Geography and the School of Politics.

One of the Studentships will entail working as a paid editorial assistant one day a week with the journal ephemera: theory and politics in organization, the other two will be scholarships without any specific tasks attached. Candidates should have finished a master degree in biology/ biochemistry and in case of project 3 (CFN) in chemistry or chemical biology. Applicants should be highly motivated and experienced in molecular and cell biological techniques. For project 3, experience in surface chemistry is an advantage.

2011-2014 Pappalardo Fellowships in Physics Competition
The mission of the MIT Pappalardo Fellowships in Physics is to sustain a distinguished postdoctoral program that identifies, recruits and supports the most talented and promising young physicists at an early stage in their careers. This initiative is made possible by the support of Mr. A. Neil Pappalardo (EE ’64), an MIT alumnus with a long history of generosity to both the Institute and the Department of Physics.
Each year, the program appoints three new Fellows for a three-year term each, via its annual competition. All Pappalardo Fellows are provided with:
* independent, unrestricted choice of research focus and direction within the MIT Department of Physics, throughout their three-year fellowship appointment;
* active faculty mentoring fostered by weekly luncheons and monthly dinners with the Department’s faculty, throughout the academic year;
* a competitive annual stipend [$62,200 for first-year Fellows in the 2011-12 academic year] with an annual cost-of-living increase, combined with $5,000 per academic year in untaxed, discretionary research funds; and
* MIT Affiliate Health Plan insurance coverage for Fellows and their dependents.

[UK] Research Job in Microfluidics and Particle Engineering, Fixed-Term for 12 Months
The project, funded by the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC), will investigate production of biodegradable core/shell capsules and gel microbeads, such as alginate, chitosan and poly(lactic acid) using flow focusing glass capillary microfluidic devices.
You will join Micro/Nano- Materials Engineering group whose research interest is centered on production of uniformly sized droplets and particles using membrane emulsification, microchannel emulsification and flow focusing glass capillary devices.
A good honours degree in Science or Engineering and experience in colloid and interface science, particle engineering, microencapsulation, polymer science or related disciplines and excellent communication and interpersonal skills is essential. A PhD in drop microfluidics, emulsion technology, particle engineering or a similar area and experience in microfluidics and microengineering is desirable.
